Web design – St.Johnstone FC Perth Scotland
St.Johnstone FC are a football club based in Perth, Scotland. We first did the web design for the club in 1999. The original website was built to provide information for fans including a forum, community information.
The original website was a static web design site but it was soon developed into a web based content management site. We developed a historical database, backend admin system, match reporting and community forum.
Although the the support of the club is relatively small, the actual online visitors varies between a staggering 240-250,000 visitors per month during the season. With such popularity there is a real need to keep the content “up to the minute” fresh. The web design also had to be fresh and changed each year to reflect the clubs position in the football league.
Major events at the club both on and off the playing field need to be updated the very minute they happen so as to keep ahead of the press and TV companies but also to give exclusive news to their fans.
With such a flow of changing information there was a requirement for the inhouse staff to be able to update the content themselves. We developed a solution for them where non technical staff could update almost anything from the lottery results to the product database of their online shop.
Over the years the site has grown and many new features such as games, SMS, live match broadcasting and live player chats have been incorporated into the site.
We no longer maintain the current club website as it has been downgraded and run inhouse due to the club being in the lower divisions.
The website now operates as a fans community blog. We still archive the original web design and content management system. At present the website is being run by fans and is growing in popularity.
